Upgrade stand-alone base ArcGIS Enterprise deployment with CloudFormation stack update

Upgrade stand-alone base ArcGIS Enterprise deployment from 10.6.1, 10.7, or 10.7.1 to 10.8.

  • On Windows:
    1. Obtain Portal for ArcGIS 10.8 authorization (.json file) and ArcGIS Server 10.8 authorization files and place them in the same deployment bucket where you stored the original ArcGIS authorization files.
    2. Download arcgis-allinone-update-policy.json file.
    3. In CloudFormation Service page in the AWS console, select the CloudFormation stack you want to upgrade, click on "Update Stack".
    4. Specify a template to replace the current template. The out of box new template URL is https://s3.amazonaws.com/arcgisstore108/12790/templates/arcgis-upgrade-allinone-windows.template.
    5. In the parameters update page select the initial ArcGIS Enterprise version for InitialArcGISVersion parameter and only update ServerLicenseFile and PortalLicenseFile parameters to point to the 10.8 authorization files.
    6. For stack policy, upload the arcgis-allinone-update-policy.json file you just downloaded. This stack policy defines the resources that you want to protect from unintentional updates during a stack update.
    7. Click on Update stack and it will upgrade the deployment to 10.8.
  • On Ubuntu:
The out of box new template URL is https://s3.amazonaws.com/arcgisstore108/12790/templates/arcgis-upgrade-allinone-ubuntu.template.
This stack policy can define the resources that you want to protect from unintentional updates during a stack update.
    7. Click on Update stack and it will upgrade the deployment to 10.8.

After the CloudFormation stack update is complete, add the BDS EC2 instances named "<stack name>-bds" back to the updated AutoScaling group of the stack. The instances are removed from the AutoScaling group by the upgrade templates to protect them from accidental termination.
